Day 1 of BOOTCAMP with Sunshine ☀️

Sunshine is scared and anxious around other dogs which manifests as reactivity! She behaves in a way that makes other dogs go away 😅
So after some in home training, where she’s made good progress, she’s here for a little bootcamp to push her to the next level 💪

Bootcamps are a great option when:
• your dog is pushing too many boundaries at home
• they’re not getting enough safe, structured exposure to triggers
• or you’re worried about pushing them into new situations on your own

Sometimes a change in environment, clear structure and the right dogs around makes all the difference!

This is just the beginning, so wish Sunshine luck on her bootcamp 😁

Hugo is a handsome 8-month-old rescue GSD x who was struggling with some on-lead reactivity and a little anxiety when left home alone…

But here’s the thing… Hugo hit the jackpot with his humans 💛

His committed mum and dad had already been putting in the work on the obedience front — and it showed! Hugo has been thriving when it comes to learning commands. But like many dogs, there was a missing piece…

Wilson’s story is one so many dog owners can relate to 👇

This handsome 2-year-old Border Collie started off with a bit of defensive barking when guests came over… but recently that escalated to a nip 🫣
 Thankfully his dedicated mum and dad are getting straight into training because behaviour like this doesn’t fix itself, it grows!

Here’s the important part: Wilson is only reactive to strangers inside his home. Out on walks? He’s social, friendly, happy to say hello 🐾

So the problem is that Wilson believes it was his job to protect the home! And that can be a heavy burden for a dog… especially one who doesn’t have the tools to handle it calmly.

So in our session, mum and dad learned how to: ✔️ Take back control of the space ✔️ Set clear, fair boundaries ✔️ Show Wilson that they’ve got this

And guess what? With just a few simple changes, Wilson was able to switch off… relax… and let his humans handle the guest 🙌

💡 If your dog is overreacting — barking, lunging, guarding — it’s often a sign they’re carrying a responsibility that’s too big for them.

Our job? Take the lead so they don’t have to.
Because a calm dog isn’t one that’s been “corrected”… It’s one that feels safe enough to let go.

Week 5 of Obedience & Socialisation and we are so proud of how far everyone has come… today was full of big challenges and even bigger wins 🙌

Today our class covered:
✅ Walking in Pairs Each week, dogs are matched with a new partner to practice calm, neutral walking and sitting side-by-side. This builds loose lead walking skills, focus around distractions and teaches dogs how to exist comfortably in close proximity without reacting.

✅ Road Safety
Dogs learning to sit or wait before crossing under specific command. The goal is for our dogs to discriminate between road and footpath, so unless they hear the crossing command, it’s lava!

✅ Brunswick East Market Walk-Through Taking our “reactive” dogs out into a busy, real-world environment is no small feat. With people, dogs and plenty of movement, this was a true socialisation test. Our classes worked on leading, calm behaviour and handler focus in a high-distraction space. It wasn’t perfect but we are so impressed with how everyone took on the challenge!

✅ Tunnel Recall Challenge We finished strong with recalls through a tunnel, which was a line of watching dogs! This exercise builds a reliable recall under distraction, while also reinforcing impulse control for the dogs holding their sit as another dog runs past. Not easy… but so important.

There may have been a few nervous faces at the start of class 😂 but the confidence (from both dogs AND humans) by the end said it all. Even our more reactive dogs rose to the occasion 💛

Huge wins today — we couldn’t be prouder 🥹
